Award Winning Relationships

September 1, 2017

Jeff often tells the story of the first time he encountered our family.  He insists that he remembers so many things about that day!  One thing in particular that he recalls is seeing inside our bus and noticing several awards that we had mounted on the wall.

Ambassador of Nice

When I think about those awards I don't think that they were won by our dazzling talents!  I remember joining that organization and wanting to help make other new people feel welcome.  We did our best to speak to everyone and let them know that they did a great job singing during their turn on the lineup of groups.  We sincerely enjoyed the fellowship and began many long term friendships with those folks.

Politics or Politeness

We later discovered that there was a "peer-voted" awards.  A lot of people were nominated for those awards.  A lot of people wanted to win those awards.  We were shocked and honored for our nomination.  Then we were even more shocked when we won!  But all of that elation was deflated when someone asked us "how much did it cost you guys to win those?"  What?!  I was so naïve that I did not know that people actually did that kind of thing.  It seemed absurd to me to think that someone would think that our family (who had hardly anything to our name) would spend money to get a little favor!

It seems that people remembered us being "nice" to them and that made them feel like being nice to us!  Amazing!  What a concept!

Acquaintance or Friend

It all starts with being nice, but Friendship is much more than being nice.  To be a friend, you must be

  • Loyal

  • devoted

  • trustworthy

  • willing to invest your time & resorces

Some of the awards of friendship are

  • Loyalty

  • devotion

  • trustworthiness

  • respect

  • revelation

  • companionship

“I do not call you servants any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you [My] friends, because I have revealed to you everything that I have heard from My Father.”
‭‭JOHN‬ ‭15:15‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We move from the servant position with God to the friend position when we invest ourselves into Him!  We don't just "join the club" with a magic prayer, but we stand behind everything we say to Him with our actions as well.  We earn all the benefits of being His friend and He begins to include us in His plans!

All He's ever wanted was to be your friend.  Don't be afraid to "be" His friend!  You'll be the winner for sure!
